Business Development Manager With various industries adopting new technology, future facade inspections could be done with drones. Drones can potentially detect surface defects on wall cladding more easily and more quickly. Although there are currently no regulations stipulating mandatory building inspections, it has been widely speculated that new regulations may be in place in 2019 due to the recent spate of cladding-related incidents. The findings of any defect from the drones will still have to be certified by a professional engineer and thereafter rectified by wall cladding specialists like Lee Wall Cladding & Roofing Pte Ltd. However, as it is still in the initial stage of testing, the system can currently detect defects on concrete surfaces. It could also be some time before it is widely adopted by building managers. Business Development Manager Are you into building management? While there is no legislation in Singapore to regulate how often buildings' exterior (or external cladding) should be inspected for defects, building managers and owners should know the possible consequences far outweigh the costs of inspection and replacement. Here are some key thoughts: 1) Buildings last, but facades don't Building structures are strong and with engineering advancements, they are expected to stand strong for centuries. In contrast, the exterior facades last for a decade on average. Think of the building as a human and the facade as clothes. The lifespan of a human can be 80 years, but the clothes usually don't last for more than a few years (due to wear and tear from washing). The same goes for facades being exposed to the weather elements. Is the facade material worn out? Is the installation done in a clever way to minimise the danger of panels falling even in the event of wear and tear? Are the bolts and screws rusty? Especially given the humidity and climate in Singapore? By A Lee
Business Development Manager Why aluminium? 1) Aluminium is more corrosion resistant than steel. 2) There is a large variety of profiles that can be made to match your needs. (Lee Wall Cladding & Roofing Pte Ltd is able to design suitable profiles.) 3) Aluminium (and aluminium sheets) are readily available (prices are subject to quantity). By A Lee,
Business Development Manager Lee Wall Cladding & Roofing Pte Ltd When it comes to wall cladding, there is a wide range of materials used - from metallic (eg. aluminium, stainles steel, aluminium composite) to mineral-based ones (eg. stone, granite, marble, concrete). The focus of this post will be on aluminium cladding - one of the main materials that Lee Wall Cladding & Roofing Pte Ltd uses for its numerous projects. From our earlier post, you would have read about aluminium composite panels and their classifications. Aluminium composite panels are formed by two layers of aluminium sheets sandwiching a core. The core is essentially the crux of it all! Polyethylene is 100% flammable and as a core, there is a possibility that heat from an external fire could conduct to the core causing the panel to deform and for the fire to spread further due to ignition of the core. Business Development Manager Lee Wall Cladding & Roofing Pte Ltd Following the tragic industrial building fire on 4th May 2017 at 30 Toh Guan Road, the Singapore Civil Defence has since stepped up on ensuring the fire safety of buildings with external wall cladding. Business Development Manager Lee Wall Cladding & Roofing Pte Ltd Further to the previous post, quality wall cladding is quintessentially both science and art. The scientific part would entail its engineering, whilst the artistic part would be to design and install the cladding system in a way that it exudes brilliance and beauty. The process is meticulous. By understanding the needs of our customers through drawings and/or a site inspection, design work commences. This then progresses to the production/supply and installation of the required materials/systems. The entire process is monitored closely from start to finish, which ensures full form and functionality. The extra attention to detail means the minimisation of dents and gaps, which are bad for aesthetics and also as a protective layer for the building. By A Lee, Business Development Manager Lee Wall Cladding & Roofing Pte Ltd Apart from aesthetic purposes, wall cladding panels have to be safe. Did you know that composite panels used for external wall cladding have to be either Class 0 combustible or non-combustible?
